Scary Update

The doctor's visit was not easy. In fact, it was very, very difficult. We went over lab tests from the last visit. To quote the doctor, loosely, death is reaching out to grab me. My liver is affected. My kidneys are affected.

She's added two more new medications to my routine for now and referred me to a diabetes educator. She's urged (demanded) that I start journaling. She's urged (demanded) that I find a support system of some sort.

And, what surprised me most, is she urged me to check out the principles of 12-step programs. Yes, she sees poor eating habits as an addiction and said I need to get sober.

She said I literally am in a fight for my life right now. That's a sobering thought.

She said that I need to journal and plan and pray each day to do my best, and then turn it over to God.

I could use your help with that part, please.

Yikes. Well, I'm glad that she ordered some meds for you. And you can beat diabetes, Trixie. You can get it under control. You'll live longer, feel better and be healthier.

I'm curious about the 12 step program. I know there is an Overeaters Anon. group, but not in my town. Please report on it and let us know. Maybe we all need to overcome our addictions.

Many hugs and prayers, Trixie. You're not going to have an easy time of it, but it can be done. I wish you the best as you start on a different phase of life, with a different way to approach it than you have in the past. Let me know if there's any way I can help.

Hugs. I've been struggling with journaling too (if by journaling you mean food diary). For awhile I just did it as a tracking mechanism, and I did pretty well. It was after I tried to make changes that I found myself dropping off.

I do need to get back in the habit of keeping the diary, then worry about when to make a modification.

Don't give up. You can do it.
