Help

Hi, I am having a hard time getting started. I am involved with a group at church. We are meeting on Saturday mornings. Give each other support (but is there ever enough support). I want to loose about 50lbs this year.

We are counting calories and exercising. The old stuff, one lady is doing a weight watcher program. The one lady that is actually doing her plan, has lost almost 20lbs.

My trouble is lack of discipline. I eat alot at my desk. I am not good at planning meals. Which I have got to get better at, as a the nutritionist

I went to on Sat, said we need to eat only organic foods. Have you ever priced organic food? So we are going to have to learn to grow it.

I think if I would get to working on that. I would not have a weight issue. Who would have time to over eat, when you plant, weed, water, compost and harvest.

I am not sure what to tell you Crystal, if I could figure out what to do about eating when you are stressed. I would have most of my problem solved.

I think that's a load of bunk about the organic food. Regardless of how it was grown, it's going to have the same calories you're going to have to work off. But that's just me. :)

Have you tried making yourself eat at a table instead of your desk? If you give yourself the rule of no eating at your desk, you might think twice before eating when you have to sit down somewhere else.

Take it a little at a time--too much and it'll overwhelm you.

Oh Frenzied! Good point about eating at the table. That's one of my bad habits too, even when I'm working from home. Now, tell me, why in the world would I drag my food into my office clear across the house from the kitchen, and sit with it balancing on my knee trying not to spill it on the computer, when I have a beautiful dining room table right NEXT to the kitchen? DUH. New habit time for me! I will eat at the table!

Organic food sounds like a good idea, but it's not always practical, and it still has some pesticides on it, too. Although, growing your own would sure be a great way to exercise, like you said. :) I think it's great you went to a nutritionist, though. What else did she say?

I think FF's idea of training yourself to just eat in a certain place is a great idea. That would be a really good thing for me to start doing, too. I'm bad about eating in the car, in front of the TV, in my room -- anywhere but at the dining room table. I use the dining room table to fold clothes faithfully, though. :)

At work I'm pretty good about just eating in the break room, but only because there's a TV in there. Well, and because I work at a hospital and I don't want to eat anywhere else. :) If I had an office job, I'd probably eat at my desk there, too, though.

Maybe if you ate healthy things at your desk, it wouldn't be a big deal. I read somewhere that when we're stressed, eating crunchy foods helps relieve it, so instead of chips, maybe you could take a little bag of carrots to work. You can get get them already washed and sliced, so there's really no preparation or planning other than remembering to buy them at the store. Grapes aren't really crunch, but they'd be good to take, too. Oh! Hard, sugar-free candies might be something to keep on your desk, too. Usually, by the time I finish eating one of those, I've fought the urge to eat anything else.

Glad to see you posting! :)
